Government support for renewable fuel use
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is part of a government programme to reduce our CO2 emissions by moving from expensive and polluting fossil fuels to renewable energy. It will make quarterly payments for the next 20 years to the owners of biomass boilers for generating and using "green" heat.
Phase 1 - (Commercial) is aimed at commercial, non-profit, charity and public sector organisations, whose heating operations represent the bulk of the UK's CO2 emissions.
Phase 2 - (Domestic) will operate from September 2013, paying homeowners and landlords for the "green" heat they generate from renewable sources. Full details about the levels of payment are due to be announced by the Energy Saving Trust next year.
